Sand Bar and Grill in Juneau

Good food, made right in front of you

I gave it a second star because I know they are capable of so much better. I know it's a Dive Bar but it could use some touches here and there. The music from the 60's needs to be replaced with something at least 25yr more modern. The waitress/bartender spent all of her time texting and I literally had to get up and go interrupt her for a second beer. I also her her refuse to get a Root Beer for the table behind us, told the guy he could get it from the attached restaurant himself. But of course they bring food to you from there. The food was actually good. They have a history of overcooking the batter on the Halibut but it was on point this visit. I like the Sandbar and I hope they tighten things up a bit.

The halibut fish and chips is very good. I’ve had fish in chips in Northern England and the stuff here is just as good. They also have good tarter sauce.

My local friends recommended this place for having “the best fish and chips in Juneau,” and they sure do! Fried mushrooms were great too!

I have been to the Sandbar, and while I don't give it 5 stars, it's definitely a place to go to. Just need a car.

The Sand Bar is pretty much a run down heap of a building. With that said it is one if those places people love to visit because it is "real". People just want to come, eat, drink and have a good time with their friends and buddies. There are pool tables and Karoke. The grill serves some of the best fried halibut you will eat. They also have prime rib, burgers and chicken sandwiches. Fries are home made. Prices for most sandwiches are 9-12 dollars. Halibut is 18 or 21 depending on how big you go. 21 is 1/2 pound or eight 1 oz pieces. The other is 5 oz. I come here everytime I visit Juneau. When they are busy, especially during extended lunch time (11-2:30) or so don't expect to come in for a quick bite. It is all made fresh and it takes a bit to prepare it. You WILL like it though.

I was recommended this place by someone who I got talking to in Gustavus whilst travelling in Alaska. They said if you are in Juneau go here it does not look much but you will not be disappointed. They were right. The place is out of town by a builders merchant but it served the best fish and chips I have ever had. The service was very friendly.

It saddens me to give such a low review but i think maybe a new person was cooking yesterday. My chicken in the sammies was still raw inside and the fried food ,like the fries and chicken strips, were soggy and undercooked. I really like eating here too but yesterday was an expensive night that left me hungry.

Decore lacking. However gave a 5 star rating based on the food. We split the Big Boy Hallibit and chips. Tarter sauce make the fish & chips one level better. Great lunch.

Gail and her staff are great, fish n chips are great, they have good selection of other foods like fried zucchini, deep fried mushrooms, hand cut onion rings, cole slaw, sandwiches. Food served in bar or restaurant.

Super low key bar and grill. Halibut is impressive. The size of the sandwiches is impressive. Definitely nothing fancy but good quality food. Packed with locals, which is always a good sign and why we went (as tourists).

Good food locals know what they like. Big portions ,prices are good for this area. Staff was friendly will be back..

The food is good but none of them wear hair nets not even the cook, I wont be back unless I see them wearing hair nets.

Best deep fried zucchini in town!

Best fish and chips in town. Good service and there's a sitdown section separate from the bar if you don't want the bar setting to have your meal.

People go here for fish and chips. It's what this place is famous for. I think it was $20 and change per order. Their halibut is great, but seems like they aren't giving as much fries as they use to. It was a little disappointing. I'm told the other food on the menu is tasty too.

Best fish & chips in town!

They have awesome food!! Their halibut is the best and their burgers are great. Absolutely love their wraps. Neverr had a complaint!!

We went here along our self-guided tour route for lunch. We had a BLT, halibut tacos, fish and chips, and French dip with mozzarella sticks. Everything was fantastic. Service was great too. Don’t be turned off by the low key atmosphere or building. I’m glad we read reviews to tell us it was well worth it!

Best fish & Chips ever anywhere. And great service. Foid was food enough to be worth having to hear the F-word about 37 times in the bar atmosphere.

We were referred to this place as we wanted to get away from the touristy places. It did not disappoint. Nice little local joint that serves the best fried haddock that I have ever tasted.

Limited menu and all fried but not greasy and very tasty. Delightful wait staff and bartender.

The halibut is amazing!! Makes you forget it is is not a 4 star restuarant decor....can go to the restaurant in back with kids.

Wow! I do not like refried fish and never eat it. There is now one exception, Sandbar & Grill. The Halibut is great! We came back for a second day in a row. One day we ate on the bar side, the second on the 'cafe' side. Food and service were the same. We were really cold while we dined here, so wear your coat during the winter. Also, the water didn't work in the womens bathroom. None of those things would even remotely stop me from enjoying this delicious fish!

We loved this place!Plenty of locals to talk to.VERY nice people! Great food. We split the halibut and chips (beer battered halibut, fries) it was delicious.The atmosphere was good. We had the beer on tap.The bartender was very nice.We hiked over 4 1/2 hours and came in here because the people at Alaska brewery recommended it.So glad she did. Spot on for the kinda place we like.

Nice local bar and grill, food is good and friendly staff. The fish n chips are great! And we also had shrimp basket as an appetizer , I t’s plenty enough food for two people, have yourself an Alaskan beer and enjoy yourself!

Best fish and chips around, nice beer selection, and very friendly locals. A great guy named Tim introduced us to the place and gave us some good tips.Don't hesitate, get the fish and chips. The fish comes in large chunks instead of the typical thin filets and cooked to perfection.

I got a super cordon blue, it was massive and delicious. Charbroiled chicken with thick ham, fries were good also

The best deep fried halibut in town. Service was excellent. Also the selection of beer on tap was very good. My guest from out of town really enjoyed the experience eating at The Sandbar.

I stopped going to this restaurant about 3 years ago. Food was too greasy and made me feel crummy after eating it. Having gone again recently I can say they've really turned it around. Great food. I dig it.

Zucchini fries and the fish and chips were amazing!

The place was full of character. The food was hot and delicious but very small portions. The methheads there were friendlier than our waitress was. The restaurant is more centered around catering to drunks than to tourists. Won't be eating here again. 😐
